Question about the NASCAR scanners…?

Hey, I am going to my first NASCAR race in Homestead on the 22nd of November. I am looking to buy a scanner (I plan on going a lot more next season)… The ones I see on the NASCAR website seem to be the scanner and headphone. I already have a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, so I can just buy the scanner right?? Where’s a good place to buy the scanner only?

Any handheld scanner that will pick up frequencies 450 – 470 will work. I have a Uniden Bearcat 50 Channel 800 MHZ handheld scanner that I picked up cheap at a pawn shop that sold them new. Channels 450 – 470 are considered UHF band. Also they have the weather on them which is great to have also.

Here are some scanner codes. Be sure to learn how to program it and set a few channels of your favorite drivers before you get to the race.

Let me add this

You can program up to as many channels as your scanner will hold. Mine will hold 50 … hence …Bearcat 50. I would not suggest programming all drivers. You can if you want to but these scanners have about 3 different modes to scan in.

1) They scan automatically within one band range. (Example … The entire 450 -470 UHF range)

2) They can scan all of the channels that you program into it. (Example…. Mine is a 50 channel and if I input 50 channels into the memory then it will scan all of those 50 channels.

3) You can stop the scan on a single channel. (Example… Stop it on your favorite driver or the one you hate the most and find out why he wrecked.

My suggestion would be to input your favorite drivers into the scanner only. Then print the list of other drivers for quick reference and learn to input channels manually so the scanner doesn’t stop on other drivers you are not interested in.
